Remora traceability solutions are being implemented in Cabuya, a fishing community in Costa Rica. This pilot project will have several phases, starting with the vessel monitoring systems. The project is a clear example of successful public – private partnerships engaging a wide range of stakeholders, which involved NGO CoopeSoliDar, AUGE, Ministry of Ambient and Energy, and the cooperative of Cabuya (Asociación de Pescadores de Cabuya)
Traceability fishing schemes will only work if we use the technology
towards the generation of better opportunities for the fishing
communities.
The main objective of the pilot run has two
components, one technological and one social. On one hand we will
test and analyze the design, communication and resistance of the
hardware to the environmental conditions.
In the other
hand we will work with fishermen that are willing to demonstrate
their responsible fishing practices. We are starting with 15 artisan
vessels.
